    The True Gentleman
  • The True Gentleman

The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe. - John Walter Wayland, Virginia 1899

  • Chapter History

Massachusetts Epsilon's history and brotherhood embodies the spirit and dedication of true gentleman to the letter. We wear ΣAE on our shirts, our sweaters, our chests, our minds and our souls. Forever linked to the history of Emerson College. Sigma Alpha Epsilon Massachusetts Epsilon was first forged in 1986 amongst the shrapnel of change and ashes of identity our Alma mater was experiencing. As Emerson was preparing for the great move from the Back Bay to across the Boston Common, ΣAE was at the forefront of molding the new social scene. And it is there that we remain - present, innovative, gentlemanly and with passion.     Capitalizing on our presence within the Emerson social scene, Emerson campus leadership and Emerson philanthropy events, MassEp brothers are vital in planning and running events that allow our community and society to flourish. Past events in the recent years have included Movember Campaign, Miss Emerson Charity Pageant, Boston Charles River Cleanup, Greek Week, Salvation Army Food Distribution among many others. Brothers are also present throughout campus programs and active members of the community participating in roles such as Emerson College Orientation Core Staff Chair, Greek of the Year, Campus Activities Board chairs and school organizations are littered with our participation. Our ranks include actors, filmmakers, marketing majors, sound-designers, journalists, graphic designers and more. A unique branch of the ΣAE realm, Mass Ep works daily to make their school, family and fraternity proud.

  • Rush

Rush in ΣAE takes place twice a year, usually during the second or third week of each semester. During this time, those interested in learning more about the organization are invited to join the brothers as they host various events around Boston. Emerson's ΣAE is always looking for outgoing and quality young men who are looking to make something more of their social experience at Emerson.
